Pastor Ruddy and Cristina Ancheta

With stack of Bibles hidden in his suitcase, Ruddy slipped through M.E. Customs without hassle. During a police raid in their camp he buried his own Bible in the sand but a hungry camel feasted on it. As a member of the cell church he was bold & passionate in his faith that eventually he resigned from his good paying job to serve the Lord.

Like many Filipinos in the Middle East Ruddy worked overseas to earn good money. He drove himself crazy earning US dollars not only as a contract worker but also as an entrepreneur . Those four amazing years , he was able to build a dream house and get almost whatever things he wanted. But in his third year , he felt God speaking to him when a persistent office worker succeeded in inviting him to a Bible Study. Ruddy gave his life to Jesus as he saw those many hungry and needy souls desperate for God’s word of hope, healing and salvation. There were times he attended church outside the campsite where the building was soundproof and the people worship at the top of their lungs.

Ruddy was quite skeptical when he first saw those miracles of healing, and other manifestations in their cell church. Nowadays he believes the Spirit of God is still working today — and yes the gospel is spreading fast in the Middle East. “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever”. Heb 13:8 He heard good news about some members of the royal family who heard the gospel and some Christians who were jailed, beaten and sent home. After a while sensing a turmoil in his spirit , he talked to his wife and they decided to serve God as a family–so he resigned from his job.

Ruddy’s heart was to be a pastor until he met YWAM National Director Larry Baldock who challenged them to join missions training. That time they already had two children and they decided to leave behind career and possessions to join Youth With A Mission. In 2000, they became leaders of YWAM Balut Smokey Mt., a ministry to about 20,000 poverty stricken people living in a huge garbage dump. “Oh God wherever you lead me, I will follow, whatever you feed me I will swallow!” – was their motto when they became missionaries in the garbage dump!

Their mission was to share a two handed gospel of both spiritual and practical helps — immunizations, health care, TB control , daycare center for malnourished children, and student sponsorships. YWAM missionaries are non-salaried. But God faithfully provided for their needs through support of friends and prayer partners . One of their great memories was Lydia, a young leprous mom with 4 small children. She was scheduled to be taken to a leprosarium when Douglas Donithan, one of their 40 staff & volunteers prayed intensely for her. Lydia was suddenly healed and her testimony attracted a lot of people and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In 2001 they moved to Gleanings for the Hungry in Sultana, California – a ministry that ships tons of food to about 70 nations, including the Philippines. (They currently serve as members of the Board of Directors of Gleanings for the Hungry and Ruel Foundation. ) In 2008 they joined YWAM San Francisco’s ministry to the homeless and at present they are still active volunteers.

Ruddy now pastor the Word of Life church, a Foursquare church in Newark, CA since Dec 2008. Ruddy and Cristina have 4 children ; Sarah: 30 years old, married to David Welther and living in Madison, WI, Mykee: 28 years old loves Worship and Rachel: 22 years old , loves music and Sydney: 11 years old , whom they adopted from Smokey Mt—loves art and dance.
